Main Information

Dimapur College was started at the initiative of some prominent citizens of the town to provide an opportunity for higher studies to those who could not afford to go outside Dimapur/Nagaland.
It was established in the year 1966 and was affiliated to Guwahati University, Guwahati, upto Degree Pass Course in Arts and Commerce. Mr. N. Kithan, the then Education Minister of Nagaland, inaugurated it on 25th of July 1966.
The College was under the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong, from 1974 to 1993. It is now affiliated to the Nagaland University, which was established in July 1994.
The College was taken over by the Government of Nagaland on 1st of February 1989 and named as Dimapur Govt. College.

Dimapur Government College, a co-educational institute established on 25th July 1966 as Dimapur College by few concerned citizens is completing its five long decades of imparting Higher Education.A humble beginning with an enrollment of 83 (Arts) students and 7 faculty members, the College is today proud to have 987 students, 50 faculty members and 55 non-teachings staff members with Arts, Commerce, and Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management programmes.

The journey of the college has faced many ups and downs, but with the active cooperation of Students, Teachers, Non-teaching staff, Parents, Alumni and the community progressed steadily over the years.

The College was taken over by the Government of Nagaland on 1st February 1989and eventually renamed as Dimapur Government College. It is affiliated to Nagaland University since 1994, prior to which it was under Guahati University and North-Eastern Hill University. The College is recognized under section 2(f)and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956.

The College is Accredidated as ‘B’ grade by NAAC on 15.11.2015

The College has decided to celebrate the Golden Jubilee in a grand befitting manner to let it be the biggest and the most remembered occasion of the season. The special occasion will be held in Oct. 2016.Various committees are working hard preparing for the celebration.

The committee is seeking contribution of old photos, reports from alumni, retired teaching and non teaching staffs of the college.

Golden Moments of Dimapur Govt. College

About Community College

  • Community college was launched in Dimapur Government College on 20th August 2014.
  • Deputy commissioner Dimapur Smt. Hushili Sema, IAS inaugaurated the one year programme.
  • It is a UGC initiative to facilitate vocational courses along with conventional programmes in the college.
  • The one year programme is Diploma programme in Tourism and hospitality management.
  • The entry point for the programme is class 12 passed graded as level 4 and on completion they shall be placed at level 5.
  • The course structure includes both theoretical and practical component and a higher weightage is placed on the latter.
  • The College has recruited competent faculty to run the course with one coordinator cum faculty and three faculty members.
  • Classes are held five days a week between 12.30- 4.00 p.m.
  • In the first batch twenty four students are enrolled for the programme.
