The first edition of Poiesis – ‘Connect, Convey, Convince’ the annual literary fest of Dimapur Government College was held on the 4th of November, 2022 at the Seminar Hall, DGC. The fest was held to nurture and bring out the bright lights of budding talents within the student community. It was jointly organised by the Literati Club and the Performing & Fine Arts Club of DGC with the department of English as the coordinating department.

N. Imlikumla Kichu of B.A 5th semester English (H) chaired the inaugural session. The welcome address by A. Sentiyula, Assistant Professor and HoD, department of English introduced the audience to the rationale of the fest and the meaning behind the term “Poiesis.” She also highlighted the events that would take place throughout the day long fest. Students from BA 5th semester presented a Lotha Naga folk song.

The Principal of the college, Prof. Sanjay Sharma, delivered a short speech wherein he noted the importance of conducting such a fest as it becomes a celebration of different talents. He recounted the stories his own grandmother would tell him and how stories have the power to help shape a person’s life.

Dr. Hannah Tia, Assistant Professor, department of Sociology, hosted the competition round. Competitions in the fest included Poetry Recitation, Flash Fiction and Painting. The Poetry Recitation competition was conducted as a tribute to late Professor Temsula Ao as contestants recited selected poems from her many collections of ‘Songs’. Faculty members from different departments of the college judged the events.

An adaptation of the play “A Pot of Gold” by Plautus was presented by Performing and Fine Arts Club, DGC under the guidance of I. Suzzana Yaden, former faculty, department of English, DGC.

In the second session, a workshop was conducted on the topic, “Speak with Confidence” by T. Imsunaro Ao, Associate Professor, department of Functional English, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung. Lanunochit Pongen, Assistant Professor, department of English introduced the resource person to the audience comprising of forty-one students and around 10 teachers. This was followed by announcement of winners by Vili K Chishi, Guest Lecturer, department of English. Distribution of certificates by Kezhaleu Hesso, Vice Principal, DGC followed. Literary Secretary, DGCSC, Bideno Ovung, BA 3rd  Semester Eng(H), delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the effort of all who participated and helped in making the event a success.

A one day state level seminar was jointly organized by Jal Shakti Team, Dimapur Government College and Swachhta Action Plan Committee, Unity College, Dimapur, on 3rd November, 2022 at Dimapur Government College, Seminar Hall.  The seminar with the theme “Urban Ground Water Management in Nagaland: Issues and the way forward” was sponsored by IQAC, Dimapur Government College and IQAC, Unity College, Dimapur. The program was chaired by Rukuoviu, Assistant Professor, department of Psychology, DGC. Dr. Vinyuhu Lhoungu, Coordinator, IQAC, Dimapur Government College welcomed the gathering and highlighted on the depletion of underground water and its consequences. Professor Sanjay Sharma, Principal, Dimapur Government College shared his concern about the gravity of water resource problems which would lead to conflicts among nations if not taken care of. The Principal also mentioned that Northeastern regions received abundant rainfall yet there was decline in the level of underground water.

 

The resource person Limasunep, Joint Director, Directorate of Soil & Water Conservation, Nagaland in his presentation shared the water related stress faced by the country and depletion of groundwater in Northeastern regions. He gave suggestions on how to ensure a sustainable future and encouraged the community to engage into water harvesting techniques to prevent further deterioration of underground water. He also shared various techniques and encouraged the institutions and community leaders to educate the people to preserve rain water through various forms and to increase the underground level of water.

Representatives from different colleges from Dimapur, colony and village council members, students and faculty members of Dimapur Government and Unity College participated in the seminar. Dr. Adani Ngullie, coordinator, IQAC, Unity College concluded the program with the vote of thanks.

Dimapur Govt College to be made a Skills Hub through Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship

 

Dimapur, Sep 27, 2022: Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar today said no part of Nagaland will be left without internet connectivity— as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modiji’s vision of Connecting all Indians, with an approach that ‘No one is left behind.’

Interacting with students of Dimapur Government College, Mr Chandrasekhar shared Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision & gave a presentation on New India for Young Indians to students and urged them to empower themselves with skills training to pursue their future life choices. After the presentation, students asked a lot of questions ranging from digital opportunities, infrastructure development in the state & translating talent into skills & jobs. The Minister answered all of their questions and received rousing applause from the students and the faculty.

 “New India offers more opportunities than ever before. Success is determined by hard work and capability and not by affiliations to any political or business family or influence. Innovation and skilling are going to drive our future as India steps into what PM Narendra Modi ji terms as India’s Techade”, he said.

Stating that the eight years of Narendra Modi government has turned the old narrative of democracy on its head, Mr Chandrasekhar said, “Previously, Indian democracy was considered dysfunctional and corrupt. But now, thanks to the Digital India programme launched by PM Narendra Modi in 2015, every single rupee is directly transferred into the accounts of the beneficiary living in the remotest corners of the country.”

He also informed them that their college would soon be converted into a skills training hub under the Skill India Mission and that the students can avail of the opportunities to get themselves future-ready.

As part of “Academic Collaboration”, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Dimapur Govt. College, Dimapur and City College of Arts and Commerce, Dimapur on 30th May 2022 at Dimapur Govt. College for a period of two (2) years, which is subject to renewal and extension, having agreed to jointly organize symposia, conferences, short courses and meetings on research activities. Literary activities, games and sports will also be jointly organized. Both parties also agreed to provide access to the library facilities for both faculty and students. The MoU was signed by the Principal of Dimapur Govt. College Dr. M. Libanthung Ngullie and the Principal of City College of Arts and Commerce Dr. Nalina Kumar. The signing of the MoU is done with the objective of with the objective of enhancing academic and research activities.

As part of “Institutional Collaboration”, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Dimapur Govt. College, Dimapur and Unity College, Dimapur on 26th May 2022 at Dimapur Govt. College for a period of three (3) years and is subject to renewal and extension. This MoU agrees to jointly participate in programs relating to respective college activities which will include faculty exchange programs, to organize and conduct research activities along with sports, literary and cultural competitions and programs. The MoU was signed by the Principal of Dimapur Govt. College Dr. M. Libanthung Ngullie and his counterpart from Unity College Dr. Lichumo Enie. The signing of the MoU seeks to foster institutional growth through wider collaboration, networking and exchange of resources between the two colleges.
