Consolidated Report for June 2022- May 2023
Various activities were conducted during the period of June 2022 to May 2023 for the growth and development of the department. The different activities are highlighted below:
- 1 &2 June,2022: A 2-day International Seminar was organized by the department in collaboration with The Highland Institute, Kohima and the IQAC, Dimapur Government College (DGC) on “Fusion: Intellectual and Cultural Exchanges”. There was a book release, ‘The Diary of Connie Shakespear: The Naga Hills 1900-1902’, the forward of which was written by Dr. A. Sentiyula, HoD, department of English. The keynote speaker was Dr. Arkotong Longkumer, Senior Lecturer, Modern Asia, University of Edinburgh, UK.
- 30th June, 2022: The department accorded a grand farewell to I. Suzzana Yaden, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English on her retirement.
- 25th July, 2022. Shingke Poangmai C, was felicitated where citation and cash prize was awarded for being the subject topper of 2022. She also bagged Dr. Hokishe Sema Award for Academic Excellence given to the topper of Arts Stream.
- 9-11 March, 2023: The HoD, Dr. A. Sentiyula along with few students attended a Storytelling and Illustration Workshop at Room 03, Dimapur which had Parismita Singh, writer, artist and educator as resource person.
- 15th April, 2023: An inter-departmental seminar was conducted by the department. The first paper presented was “Status of Women in Ancient Literature: A Case Study of Select Characters” by Sungitjungla Imsong, Moabenla Tzudir, Nilovi K Anche and Manei Mercy Phom of B.A. English (Hons), 2nd Semester. Another comprehensive paper was presented by Assistant Professors, Toviholi Swu and Lanunochit Pongen on the topic “The Patriarchy Strain in Women Characters of Easterine Kire’s A Terrible Matriarchy”.
- 1st May, 2023: English Students Club, Dimapur Government College organized “Battle of Wits”. In the ‘Spell Bee’ competition Atino Yeptho of B.A 4th semester and N. Imlikumla Kichu of B.A 6th semester bagged first and second positions respectively.
- 3rd May, 2023: The Graduating Students Interactive Programme (GSIP) cum Annual Department Farewell of the Department of English, Dimapur Government College was held at the Seminar Hall.
- 10th May, 2023: Faculty and students of the department conducted an extension activity at Sisterhood Network (SN), Dimapur under the theme “Learning Outreach and Welfare Initiative”. Sisterhood Network is a Dimapur-based NGO that has been working quietly and resiliently for the welfare of the downtrodden and voiceless, including victims of abuse living on the fringes of society, since 2001.
- The department contributes annually to the Student Welfare Fund of the college. It has its own Student Welfare Fund too where students from financially challenged families are identified and given monthly stipend. At the moment four (4) students from the department are sponsored under the Fund. These students are financially supported till the completion of their studies in the college. We are on the lookout for two (2) more students for the above mentioned fund which will make it a total of six (6) students financially sponsored by the faculty of the department.
