Consolidated Report (June 2022 – June 2023)

The Department conducted the following activities during June,2022 – May, 2023

1. On the College Foundation Day, 25th July, 2022, the College felicitated the Toppers and the department of Political Science also felicitated the Department toppers, Mhalevino Yepthomi (Hons) and Meratula Jamir (Gen) with citation and cash.

2. On 12th August, 2022, the Political Science department in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club, DGC, organised International Youth Day (IYD) with the Theme: Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for all ages – HIV Free. An introduction was delivered by Convenor of RRC, Ms. Moamongla, Asso. Prof. The Principal, Prof. Sanjay Sharma exhorted the students and the Head of Department, Khrienuo Angami, Asso. Prof, spoke on the importance of International Youth Day.

3. The Department in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club & the Students Council, DGC and the Junior International Chamber (JIC), a non-profit organisation, organised a Blood Donation Camp in the College Campus on 2nd September, 2022. The Principal gave the welcome note and Dr. Temsu, CMO, District Hospital, Dimapur delivered a brief talk on the importance of Blood donation. 21 students and 2 Program Officers came forward to donate blood. The Blood donation drive was sponsored by the organising team of JIC.

 

4. Inter-Departmental Seminar held on 15th October, 2022, the paper was presented by Guest Lecturer, Talichuba on the Topic: “A Study on the Classification of Traditional Institution among the Nagas.” Ms. Purtila, Asso. Prof. chaired the program and Sedevino, Head and Asso. Prof. gave the vote of thanks.

 

5. On 6th December,2022, the department organised a farewell for the outgoing guest faculty, Talichuba Walling and thanked him for helping out the department in its time of need.

6. The D.C. Office along with the officers and staff and the Dimapur Government College celebrated the 13th National Voters Day on 25th January, 2023 at the Seminar Hall of the College. 33 students of Political Science, some of who were new voters along with two faculties participated in the programme. The D.C. highlighted on the importance of voting and gave awareness on inclusion of new voters.

7. On 30th January, 2023, the department of Political Science along with DGCTA officials visited Dr. Maongsangba, on his retirement, to acknowledge his years of service to the DGC as well as to the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland.

 

8. In February, 2023, after the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly Elections were held, the Department of Political Science, as part of its Road Map, conducted a Survey on Voting Behaviour in the Assembly Segments of Dimapur I, II & III, along with the students of B.A. 4th Semester (Gen) and B.A. 6th Semester (Hons). This Survey will enable the department to work on bringing out a paper.

 

9. Political Science Students Club was formed on 13th March, 2023 with the following as Executive Council: President: Siegoulen, Vice President: Wangno Konyak, General Secretary: Ilitoli Chophy, Asst. G.S.: Tokushe Zhimo, Treasurer: Allomi Sema, and Ms. Moamongla, Asso. Prof as Teacher In charge.

 

10. As part of the Annual plan, the department adopted a spot in the Old Campus for a Green Garden concept and on 22nd April, 2023, the department faculty along with students had a cleaning and plantation drive. 18 students and five faculty participated.

 

  

11. The Department along with the College bade farewell to Former HoD & Associate Professor, Khrienuo Angami on 29th April, 2023. Ms. Purtila, Asso. Prof. chaired the program and Dr. Vinyuhu Lhoungu, Asst. Prof, Department of Economics pronounced the invocation. Speeches were delivered by Principal, Prof. Sanjay Sharma, Lhipe Naro, Asst. Prof. and Vice President of DGCTA, Ms. Sedevino, HoD and Asso. Prof. on behalf of the department. Voluntary speeches from Vice Principal, Ms. Kezhale Hesso and Ms. Meripeni Ngully, Asso. Prof. and HoD, Department of History. Special songs were presented by friends and Ms. Vivi Swu. The retiring Officer, Ms. Khrienuo, Asso. Prof. spoke and shared about her experiences in service, and benediction was pronounced by Dr. Hannah Tia, Asst. Prof. department of Sociology.

 

12. On 1st May, 2023, the Department organised a Talk on: “INDIA’S CHANGING PARTY SYSTEM: THE RISE AND DECLINEOF THE CONGRESS PARTY AND POLITICAL COMPETITION THEREAFTER” by inviting Dr. Rahul Verma, Fellow at Centre for Policy Research (CPR) and visiting Faculty at Ashoka University, New Delhi. A good discussion followed the talk. The talk was moderated by Ms. Amongla N.Jamir.

13. As part of the Department Road Map, a Career Guidance program for Graduating 6th Semester Honours students was organised by the Department on 3rd May, 2023, with Shri Imnalensa, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Kohima, as the resource person. Ms. Moamongla, Asso. Prof. chaired the program and introduced the Resource Person, who frankly shared from his own experiences and awed and encouraged the Students. An inter-active session followed. The Principal, Prof. Sanjay Sharma gave the welcome note and also actively participated in the interaction.

 

14. The Faculty of Political Science department organized a Farewell program for the outgoing 6th Semester Honours students on 9th May, 2023. The students participated with songs and speeches and showed their appreciation to the department. The Faculty gave speeches and guidance to the students.
