Consolidated Report for the period June 2022 – May 2023
- The Sociology Club was formed by the Department of Sociology on 6th March, 2023, with the objective to promote holistic learning and development of students. The inaugural session was attended by all B.A. Sociology Honours students and 5 faculty members.
The office bearers are :

2. The office bearers and members of Sociology Club, along with the faculty members of Department of Sociology, organised the club’s first activity by celebrating International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2023 with women from Swadhar Greh, Prodigals’ Home, Dimapur. After an interactive session, the department presented them with food items and sanitary napkins as a token of love and support. Swadhar Greh is a home for women in distress and a scheme under the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
3. The faculty members from the department identified slow learners from B.A. Sociology Honours 2nd Semester, based on their performance in the previous semester exam, internal assessment and participation in classroom activities and subsequently, conducted an interactive session with them on 14th April, 2023. Students were encouraged to put in more effort and to manage time efficiently and the department extended its full support to guide and assist them. Strategies and measures which would be beneficial for the students were also discussed.
4. To commemorate the 132nd birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the department organised an Extempore Speech Competition on the theme “Remembering the Social Reformer” on 14th April, 2023 for B.A. 2nd Semester Honours students. 8 students participated and the winners as well as the participants were given cash awards with the aim to encourage and motivate them. It was attended by 22 students and 5 faculty members.

5. The Department of Sociology, Dimapur Government College, organised a one-day field trip to Khonoma for B.A. Sociology (Honours) 6th Semester students on 27th April, 2023 with the theme “Sociological Observation of Rural Community”. It was organised with the purpose of giving the students the experience of learning beyond the classroom. A total of 31 students and 5 faculty members participated in the field trip.
6. Graduating Students Interactive Programme (GSIP) for the first batch of Sociology Honours students (2020-2023), consisting of 35 students, was held on 4th May, 2023 on the theme “Exploring Career Pathways”. The faculty members apprised the students on exploring career opportunities in 3 different fields: competitive exams, skill development & entrepreneurship and research.
6. As part of the extension service, the Department of Sociology, with the aim of promoting the cause for girl child education, is fully sponsoring the education of a girl child named Urnima Bodo studying in the 7th standard.
