Commemoration of International Day of Zero-Waste by Science Students’ Club 30-03-2026

The Science Students’ Club of Dimapur Government College (DGC) organized a ‘Cleanliness Drive’ on 30th March 2026 to commemorate the “International Day of Zero Waste”. The programme was conducted within the college campus with the aim of promoting cleanliness, sustainability, and environmental awareness among students.

The drive began early in the morning with active participation by the members of Science Students’ Club, comprising of one (1) faculty and eighteen (18) students. Cleaning was done in the administrative block, library and all the three blocks i.e., Science, Commerce, and Arts. Students worked in teams and were assigned different areas to ensure effective cleaning of corridors, and surrounding spaces.

During the drive, members collected various types of waste, including plastic, paper, other non-degradable and biodegradable wastes. Emphasis was placed on proper waste segregation. Biodegradable wastes were later used for composting. The participants also spread awareness by displaying posters about the harmful effects of single-use plastics and encouraged the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as reusable bags, bottles, and containers. The cleanliness drive also highlighted the importance of maintaining hygiene and adopting sustainable practices in daily life. Students were motivated by the message, “Zero Waste is not a limitation; it’s a creative challenge,” which inspired them to take responsibility for protecting the environment.

The programme concluded successfully with a visibly cleaner campus covering all three blocks. The initiative not only improved the cleanliness of the college environment but also created a sense of unity, responsibility, and environmental consciousness among the participants. The Science Students’ Club’s effort was highly appreciated and served as a meaningful step towards building a greener and sustainable future.
