Report on ICSSR-NERC Sponsored Two-Week Online National Workshop on Research Methodology for College and University Teachers – 7th to 17th April 2026

Dimapur Government College (DGC), Nagaland, successfully inaugurated a two-week online National Workshop on Research Methodology on April 7, 2026.  Organised by the Research & Development Cell, DGC in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), DGC, and sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR-NERC), the workshop continued till April 17, 2026.

The programme has witnessed an overwhelming response, registering a total of 867 participants, comprising university and college teachers as well as research scholars from across India and abroad including Malaysia, Uganda, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, highlighting its global academic reach and relevance.

In the inaugural session, the keynote address was delivered by Prof. Bhagirathi Panda, Director, ICSSR-NERC, Shillong, who highlighted the growing significance of research in the social sciences and humanities in addressing contemporary global challenges. He stressed that issues such as climate change, global inequality, geopolitical conflicts, and uneven developmental outcomes require rigorous, evidence-based research. Emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary approaches, he urged academicians to integrate theory with empirical research and collaborate across disciplines, especially in the context of India’s National Education Policy, which promotes a multidisciplinary framework.

Highlighting emerging challenges, he noted the rapid advancement of technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), and stressed the need for ethical benchmarks in its application. Encouraging participants to pursue honest and meaningful research, he called for collective efforts to generate knowledge that improves quality of life and addresses real-world problems.

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Hare Krushna Parhi, Assoc. Professor, Department of Education and Workshop Director. Welcome address by Dr. T. Tiakaba Jamir, Principal of DGC, and Dr. Vinyuhu Lhoungu, Assoc. Professor, Department of Economics and Coordinator, IQAC, DGC, delivered the vote of thanks.

After successfully completing the Two-Week Online National Workshop, a valedictory function was conducted on 17th April 2026 at 5:30 pm in seminar hall with Smti. V. Lovitoly Sema, NCS, Ex Officio Director, Higher Education, Nagaland as the Valedictory Guest. She congratulated the organisers on the successful completion of the workshop which saw participation from across the world and expressed her hope that it will create an awareness about the significance of quality research across the world.

Stating that the workshop was designed to strengthen the research capacity of education in an increasingly knowledge driven academic environment. With a growing emphasis on quality publications, interdisciplinary enquiry and evidence-based teaching: the pressing need for faculty members to be equipped with rigorous methodological skills was greatly felt.

She also hoped that the programme has empowered both teachers and scholars to undertake meaningful and sound research which will ultimately result in a stronger research ecosystem fulfilling the tenets of NEP 2020 and to the creation of quality research output in the country, helping India become a research powerhouse. She also stated that research should be able to provide solutions for societal problems.

The workshop was an overwhelming success with eminent personalities in academia as resource persons from across the country for nineteen (19) rigorous technical sessions.

The valedictory session was chaired by A. Moamongla Aier, Associate Professor, department of Pol. Science, DGC. Participants shared their valuable feedback and observations. Closing remarks was delivered by Dr. H. Atoholi Sema, Assistant PProfessor, department of Chemistry,  DGC,  and Dr. Meripeni Ngully, Vice Principal, Dimapur Government College, delivered the vote of thanks.
