Report on The P.A. Sangma Dialogues – “Peace through Development: Nagaland and the Unfinished Journey of the Northeast” held in Dimapur Government College on 18th September, 2026
The department of Political Science and the department of History, Dimapur Government College (DGC), in collaboration with the P.A. Sangma Foundation, hosted a seminar exploring peace, development, and identity in Nagaland and the Northeast on the 18th of September 2026.
Ms. A. Moamongla Aier, Associate Professor, department of Political Science, DGC, chaired the session, and Ms. N. Sentinungla Pongen, Vice Principal, delivered the welcome address, encouraging active participation in the discussions.
Three dialogues formed the core of the programme: Mr. Mmhonlümo Kikon (author, poet, and public policy analyst from Nagaland) examined federalism, autonomy, and Naga identity within the Indian Union, while Avantika Roohi (food writer & digital chronicler of traditional weaves from the northeast of India) and her husband Daniel Langthasa (politician from NE India) reflected on food and traditional weaves as expressions of the region’s cultural diversity.
Each dialogue was followed by an interactive discussion between students and the speakers, touching on various aspects related to the respective topics. The seminar closed with a vote of thanks by Ms. Lily Rino, HoD, department of History, DGC, bringing together scholarly, political, and cultural voices under the theme “Conversations for a Stronger Northeast.”. Earlier a special song was performed by the Political Science Club, DGC.
