Under the initiative of IQAC, Dimapur Govt. College held a one-day faculty development programme on use of ICT and modern teaching practices with Er.Sanchamo Yanthan and Er. Sudipto Patowary of IT Deptt., NU-SET as resource persons.
The chairperson, Khieo.Rutsa, Associate Professor in Education opened the programme by stressing on the importance of using available technology to enhance and supplement the teaching-learning process.
Principal DGC, Kavili.Jakhalu, supplemented the chair’s address by speaking of the need for teaching techniques to keep apace with the advancements everywhere else in the modern scenario.
She concluded that a technological gap exists between teachers and students and the remedy requires upgradation of teaching methods and a major change in the existing mindset of teachers towards modern teaching methods.
The first session was conducted with Dr.T.Jamedi, Assistant Professor in Philosophy, as the moderator as Er. Yanthan took the 50-plus partcipants through the basic steps of ICT with tips on powerpoint presentation.
He also provided practical information on Google apps which are available online free of cost and which can be used for accessing information and to reduce clutter created by external storage devices as well as for storage of information.
The second session was moderated by Zanthungo Ngullie, Assistant Professor in Commerce. The resource person, Er.Patowary conducted a practical session with the participants on Google Classroom.
He also interacted on the practicalities of the virtual classroom and encouraged the faculty to go beyond the theory in order to give the next generation the edge that only knowledge of technology can provide.
Dr.Vitosie.Vupru, IQAC Co-ordinator, gave away the certificates and Dr.Maongkala.Longchar pronounced the vote of thanks with a special mention of Meripeni Ngully, the brain and energy behind the workshop.
