Report on webinar conducted by the Department of Economics, Dimapur Government College on 16th October, 2020.

The Department of Economics, DGC, organised a state level webinar on the theme “Consumer Awareness Rights and Responsibilities in the Context of Global Pandemics” with the objective to create consumer awareness amongst teaching, non-teaching staff and students of DGC.

The resource person for the webinar was Advocate Kezhokhoto Savi, Assistantt Professor, Kohima Law College, and President, Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO).

The programme started with an opening remark delivered by Dr Vinyuhu Lhoungu, Asst Professor, Department of Economics and Convenor of webinar organising committee, followed by welcome address from Ms Anungla Aier, Associate Professor, Deptt of Economics,DGc.

Based on the premise that everyone is a consumer from birth to death, K.Savi, in his presentation  highlighted the six consumer rights under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, such as: (i)Right to safety  (ii) Right to information  (iii) Right to choice  (iv) Right to be heard or right to representation  (v) Right to redressal  (vi) Right to consumer awareness. Advising all to be aware of false or misleading advertisement, the participants were reminded to favour products with the ISI and Agmark seals.

The session ended with a round of discussion and vote of thanks by Ms Imtikokla Ozukum, Assistant Professor, Deptt of Economics,DGC.

 The webinar was attended by around 94 participants.
