Interactive Session organised by Career Counselling & Placement Cell on 20.3.2021

The Career Counselling and Placement Cell of Dimapur Government college organised a one-day interactive session with Don Bosco Job Placement Network India under AIDA, Dimapur on 20th March 2021 in the College Auditorium. The target group was 6th Semester students of B.A. and B.Com.

The programme was chaired by Dr. Vinyuhu Lhoungu, Asst Professor, Department of Economics.  The Resource person was Mr. Sebi Chacko,Job coordinator, AIDA Don Bosco, Dimapur.  The presentation was followed by an interaction on building up skills and choosing a career suited to one’s ability.  The resource person emphasised that there is no substitute for knowing oneself and exploring one’s interest. He explained the ‘Holland Hexagonal model of career’, which aims to categorise people according to the type of work they are most interested in and then categorise occupation under the same scheme to   measure their congruence viz: being realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, conventional, realistic.   He further emphasised that to choose a career, one should follow steps like reading career books, seeking career counselling, networking and attending job fairs etc. He challenged the students to be daring and that there is a high demand for small skill jobs like labour in marketing industries outside of Nagaland. There is also a high demand for data science which requires content writing, and may suit graduates of both Arts and Commerce.  Some factors to consider in building one’s career is to develop personality skills by getting involved in various activities. Moreover, volunteering and internships are vital for freshers. The speaker also dwelt on what to look for in a career, assessment of individual skills, managing one’s stress level and the need to be competent.  Later the resource person introduced their institute app which can be downloaded in play store for free where information and files on updated employment schemes and news are available at all times.  The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Rukuoviu, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Psychology.
