
About the Department
The Department of Philosophy was initially at Wangkhao Govt. College, Mon, and through a circumstantial arrangement of the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Nagaland, the department of Philosophy was shifted to Dimapur Govt. College in the year 2005 with three (3) faculty members offering General course. In the year 2009 Honors course was also introduced. Currently the department has six faculty members. The department offers Four Years Under Graduate (FYUGP) Honors course specified by the Nagaland University.
The motto of the department is EUDAIMONIA, a greek word which literally translates to the state or the condition of good spirit and which is commonly translated as ‘happiness’ or ‘welfare.’
Vision and Mission
Philosophy being the root of all disciplines of study, our vision and mission statement is to generate an environment for philosophy and philosophizing, and thereby inculcate a culture of critical thinking in the minds of the students in order to generate various forms of dialogues, harmonize and promote knowledge of cultures and cultures of knowledge towards the regeneration of human values.
