2. Highlight of the Departmental Activities

  • Faculty Meeting: During the period the Departmental Faculty meeting was held 4 times, during which the Annual Plans, Library books development, student progression of the department were mainly discussed. 
  • Department Library: The department library currently has 110 books. The department also has an E-Resources Library in order to make up for the non-availability of many important philosophy books in the market.
  • Publication: During the period there is one book publication by Dr. Asangba Tzudir titled “Talking with the Spirits: Ao Naga Traditional Rituals.”
  • Welfare: The Department continues to sponsor one (1) student in the Students Welfare Fund Scheme.
  • Department Topper: The Annual Award for Academic Excellence in Philosophy (Best among Philosophy Major Students) for the year 2023 was awarded to Mr. Limasunep Longchar. The award carries a citation and cash prize of Rs. 5000/-.
  • Faculty Extension Activity: The faculty members, besides the academic duties, are busy all through the year being engaged in most of the important committees like Student Assessment Committee, IQAC, Infrastructure Development Committee, Mentoring Committee, Career Counseling and Placement Committee, Research Committee.
  • Inter-Departmental Seminar: 19.08.2023: Mr. N. Temjenmeren Jamir, Assoc. Prof., presented a paper on the title: “Mystery of Trinity in religion with reference to Ao-Naga Belief in Tsüngrem(God)” during the inter-departmental seminar conducted on 19.08.2023.
  • Ms. N. Sentinungla Pongen, Assoc. Professor, Department of Philosophy took charge as the Head of the Department on 15 June 2023. She took over from Mr. Y. Thangsoi.

3.  EVENTS AT A GLANCE

i) Inter-Department Seminar : Department of Philosophy conducted Inter-Department Seminar on 19th Aug. 2023 at 12:30 PM. The programme was chaired by Dr. Asangba Tsudir, Asst. Prof. Department of Philosophy and  a paper on “Mystery of Trinity in Religion with Reference to Ao-Naga Belief in Tsüngrem(God)” was presented by Mr. N. Temjenmeren, Assoc. Prof.  Department of Philosophy. After a lively ‘question and discussion’ hour the vote of thanks was proposed by the chairperson followed by refreshment. All together 32 teachers, 19 Philo. Major students with Principal and Vice Principal attended the seminar.

ii) Resource Person : Dr. Asangba Tzudir, Asst. Professor, Department of Philosophy attended  a One-Day Workshop on Research Methodology at J. N. Aier College as a Resource Person. The Worshop was organised by IQAC & Research Committee, J. N. Aier College, Diphupar, Chumoukedima.

iii) Award: Dr. Asangba Tzudir, Asst. Professor, Department of Philosophy, DGC received an International Award for a Christian Documentary Film titled, “From Longkitsüngba to Jehovah” which he was part of the Team as Writer (Story and Research). The documentary film is on the coming of Christianity to Nagaland and won the Best Documentary film, Best Educational film, Best Foreign film, best costumes and best animation. The documentary film was screened on 27 Jan 2024 in Virginia, United States during the Christian Film Festival.

4) ACTIVITIES  
i) As part of Curriculum enrichment for the course on Critical Thinking and Decision Making, the Department of Philosophy conducted mental activity based games for the 2nd Semester students.

ii) Discussion on LGBTQ was organized by the Philosophy Department for its 4th Semester students on 12th March, 2024. The outcome of this discussion was an article published in the Morung Express, as well as in the DGC Annual Magazine titled PURSUIT.

iii) Documentary Film Screening: Dept of Philosophy screened a BBC Documentary Film – “Jungle- People of the trees” for the students as part of curriculum enrichment activity which is in alignment with the SEC course Art and Film Appreciation (Documentary as Art Form)  on 15th March, 2024 in the seminar hall.

iii) Mentoring
As specified by the mentoring committee, mentoring is conducted on the first Saturday of every month. However, besides the regular scheduled mentoring session, mentoring takes place from time to time giving greater focus on the academic progression of both the advanced as well as slow learners.

iv) Parting Social Graduating Students Interaction Program
The Graduating Students Interactive Program with the 2021-2024 Batch was held 11 April 2024. Altogether there were 15 graduating students. There was a formal programme followed by an interactive session where all the graduating students shared about their philosophical journey in DGC and what they learnt in the course of the three years study. The teachers also shared words of exhortation besides sharing about future career pathways
