Department Report for the period June 2023 to May 31st 2024.
- Departmental Seminar on “Research methodology with special emphasis on Project Work” in BA 6th Semester. (Eco-603(e)). The seminar was held on 11/10/23 with the present 5th Semester honors students. Dr Yelhi Vero was the Resource person and he spoke on research methodology, steps involve in research, analysis, data collection etc. Vinyuhu Lhoungu, Project Coordinator ends the programme by deliberating more on the benefit of taking project paper. 51 students and 5 teachers attended the programme.
2. The Department gave a Cash Award of Rs 5000/- and certificate to Miss Zulumongla Jamir, subject topper with CGPA 6.68 on 3rd August 2023.
3. Economics Department had a meeting with North East Network (NEN) on 6/9/2023 in IQAC room. The meeting highlighted the past experience where economics dept was able to send 5 students for NEN Summer camp. The department also express the need of the hour (internship programme), expectation and vision in working with NEN. Both the parties consented to have a collaboration.
4. “World Food Day” was observed on 16th October 2023 by Economics Department DGC in collaboration with NEN. The main event of the programme is the signing of MOU with NEN as knowledge partners. Indigenous food recipe competition was held with the BA 5th Semester (Economics honors). The student was divided into 9 groups (4 to 6 in each group) and each group came with a locally prepared dish using only local resources. PPT presentation was given on the recipe, health benefits, stories behind it, presentation and taste. It was judge by a) Ms Kezhaleu Hesso, Vice Principal b) Dr Vinyuhu Lhoungu, IQAC Coordinator c) Ms Vilazonuo, Project Lead NEN.
5. Dr Vinyuhu Lhoungu and Ms Pudezono Tase, along with economics students attended online lecture series on “State Budget 2024-25:A Comprehensive Perspective” organize by Nagaland Economic Association (NEA) in collaboration with department of Economics; NU, on 5th April 2024.
6. The Economics department attended the second day of the 15th NEN Bio-diversity Festival on 7th March 2024, with 4 teaching faculty and 14 students at Chizami under the theme “Bio-diversity building a shared future for all life”. The aim is to create awareness to be more informed, connected and motivated to contribute positively to biodiversity conservation. It also highlights the various threat to biodiversity and encourage actions that support sustainable living and biodiversity conservation.
7. On 16th March 2024, class representatives, Officials of Economics club and faculty of economics department visited an Old Age Home ‘A House of Friendship’ at Hill View Colony as a part of the extension service and extended some material help to the inmates. 4 teaching faculty along with 10 students took part in this visitation.
8. Economics club, DGC donated 5 dustbin for both degradable and non-degradable waste to commerce block on 10/4/24.
9. Dr Vinhuhu Lhoungu, Asstant Professor: IQAC Coordinatior, went as External Examiner to Yemhi college on 26/4/24.
10. Economics club organized the Farewell cum GSIP on 26/4/24. Ms Pudezono Tase,Assistant Professor introduce the new office bearers and shared her career journey. Certificate of appreciation was handed over to the outgoing office bearers by Ms Anungla Aier. Associate Professor and HOD.
11. Department of Economics along with Economics Club celebrated the “International Workers Day” on 1st May 2024. Workers’ day message was given by Ms. Akumsenla, BA 2nd semester and presentation on the history, significance and protection of workers’ rights was given by a) Ms. Abeny C.
