3rd August  2023: As part of Dimapur Government College’s 57th Foundation Day programme on 3rd August 2023, at the college auditorium, a felicitation ceremony was held for the university toppers and subject toppers of the college. The first subject topper’s award of the college, for Department of Sociology was awarded to Ms. Rose Jami with a CGPA of 6.27. The topper was felicitated by HoD, Lhipe Naro, with a certificate and cash award by the department.

17th and 18th October 2023: Department of Sociology, Dimapur Government College hosted its first Socio Fest on 17th and 18th October, 2023 at the Seminar Hall, DGC.

The fest began with a special song by students of B.A. 3rd Semester Sociology Honours. Prof. Sanjay Sharma, Principal, DGC gave a short speech and officially unveiled the department logo with the motto ‘Inculcating human values through excellence’ at the opening programme held on 17th October 2023.

As part of the 2-day Socio Fest, various competitions were organized by Sociology Club to encourage students to tap into their creative potential and showcase their talent and aptitude. The events included debate, quiz, extempore, skit and logo competitions. 71 students from Sociology Department participated in the competitions. Faculty members from other departments were assigned as judges for the competitions.

The Socio Fest concluded with a valedictory programme on 18th October, 2023. Lhipe Naro, Head, Department Sociology, DGC gave the concluding remarks and awarded the students with certificates and cash prizes. All participants were also felicitated.

It was attended by all the students and faculty members of Sociology Department, DGC.

 

27th April 2024: The department of Sociology, Dimapur Government College organised a field visit to Niuland district cum Graduating Students Interactive Programme (GSIP) for the outgoing students of B.A. 6th Semester Sociology Honours on 27th April 2024.

The aim of the one-day field trip was to provide the students with experiential learning. The students got the opportunity to visit and observe various rural aspects of the district. The group also visited Platinum College, the first college in Niuland district. This was followed by lunch at Phutoi farm, Niuland.

The field trip concluded with a GSIP at Phutoi farm at 2 PM. The programme was chaired by Piketo Chishi of BA 6th Semester. It began with an invocation by Dr. Herali Achumi. A motivational talk was delivered by Nungsangtola Walling and on behalf of the outgoing batch, Libo H. Zhimo and Shoklem L, shared their experiences in DGC. This was followed by an interactive session with the students. The closing remark was proposed by the HoD, Lhipe Naro. The programme ended with a special prayer for the graduating students by Dr. Hannah Tia.
Altogether, 40 students and 4 faculty members participated in the field visit cum GSIP.

 

5th June 2024: An orientation programme for BA 1st Semester Sociology Major students was organized on 5th June, 2024 by Department of Sociology, Dimapur Government College at 12 PM in Room No- 4, Arts block. Head, Department of Sociology, Lhipe Naro warmly welcomed the freshers and chaired the programme. The students were oriented on the general scope of Sociology by Jimokali Zhekheto Zhimomi, significance of social research by Dr. Herali Achumi and rules and discipline, exams and courses by Dr. Hannah Tia. This was followed by a vote of thanks by Nungsangtola Walling and prayer for the new batch  of students by Dr. Hannah Tia.
