SWOC Analysis

Strengths

  • The department has qualified and experienced faculty engaged in sincere teaching and extension activities
  • There are two teachers who are PhD holders and one is enrolled as a Ph.D scholar
  • The teachers are engaged in research activities and have published research papers in UGC recognized journals, international peer reviewed journals with impact factor and in conference proceedings
  • The department offers personal counselling to students who approach the teacher
  • The Department has started offering Honours paper in Psychology
  • The teachers use ICT in the classrooms
  • World Mental Health Day is observed every year and awareness programmes and seminars are organized by the Department
  • The Psychology students volunteer in orphanages and special children homes

Weakness

  • The program is available on undergraduate level only
  • Shortage of faculty members in the Department

Opportunities

  • To purchase standardized psychological tests that will aid in counselling
  • To organize national and international seminars, workshops and symposiums
  • To guide students to pursue postgraduate courses, B.ed in special education and counselling courses after their graduation
  • To collaborate and work with different organizations relevant to the subject to spread awareness on mental health

Challenges

  • To further strengthen the research activities of teachers
  • To encourage the students for pursuing postgraduate courses
  • To provide 6 months diploma courses in guidance and counselling and introduce Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) recognized courses
  • To start a counselling cell to provide counselling to the students in the college
