15th June, 2023: Orientation for second batch of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) sponsored skill training in Sewing Machine Operator and Electronic Appliances was conducted for B.A. and B.Com 5th Semester students in the Seminar Hall. 16 students participated in the orientation programme.
19th June, 2023: Skill Development Committee conducted orientation for online registration in NSDC portal for the 2nd batch of trainees in Sewing Machine Operator and Home Appliances in the seminar hall.
18th August, 2023: A one-day workshop on “Handmade Fashion Jewellery” was organized by Skill Development Committee, DGC for students, staff and faculty in the seminar hall at 2:00 PM. Dr. Vinyuhu Lhoungu, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics and Coordinator IQAC, chaired the programme and Dr. Maongkala Longchar, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Convenor, Skill Development Committee proposed the welcome address who also briefly introduced the resource person, Mr Zabenthung Murry, founder of Zaben Murry Designs and an alumni of DGC. The workshop commenced with the resource person briefing on Handmade Fashion Jewellery and an introduction to the basic materials required in the process. The resource person demonstrated how to make the raw materials from scratch and create jewellery items from those materials. The workshop was attended by 30 enthusiastic participants comprising of both students and teachers and each participant had learned to make at least two pairs of different items and concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Miss Moabenla Tzudir, B.A. 3rd Semester English Honours.
29th August, 2023: e-KYC verification under NSDC portal for skill training was conducted in Seminar Hall on 28th& 29th August, 2023 for all who have registered earlier in the NSDC portal.
4th September, 2023: Principal, Prof. Sanjay Sharma along with 5 members of Skill Development Committee, held a meeting with Shri. Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA and Advisor, Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Excise Department at his residence in Aoyimti, Dimapur.
12th September, 2023: The 2nd batch of skill training in Sewing Machine Operator began with trainer Mr. Neikhozoto Savino and course coordinator Dr. G. Phukato Sema, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, welcoming the new batch of 30 trainees.
15th September, 2023: After a month-long soft skill training conducted by UNNATI Skill Training, Bangalore, for B.Com 5th semester students, a valedictory programme was organized by Skill Development Committee. 60 students completed the course.
18th September, 2023: The first batch of training on Assistant Beauty Therapist under NSDC started on 18th Sept. 2023 in the Seminar Hall with Ms. Lily Kinny, as the instructor. The instructor took a theory-based class and spoke on the essentials of beauty therapy and practices such as threading, pedicure, manicure, etc. Earlier, the trainer was introduced to the trainees by Dr. Maongkala Longchar, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Convenor, Skill Development Committee in the presence of course coordinator, Ms. Watisenla, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
22nd September, 2023: First batch of skill training of Assistant Installation Computing and Peripherals under the sponsorship of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) started with 13 students with Mr. John Semy Rengma as course trainer and Ms. Lima Naro Amer, Associate Professor, Department of Education as course coordinator.
5th October, 2023: Officials from Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) conducted an orientation on Online Courses for Skill Development in the College Auditorium for all the students of DGC. Resource persons Dr. Arenla Aier, Consultant, HRD, IDAN and Mudit Pant, Consultant, Strategy and Impact – REACHA oriented the students about Online registration in International Business Machines (IBM) portal for Online Courses for Skill Development.
11th October, 2023: Orientation on UNNATI Soft Skill Training (4th Batch) was held at 2:00 PM in the college auditorium.
18th October, 2023: Orientation for Skill Development on Cane & Bamboo Craft was conducted in the college auditorium with B.A, & B.Com. 5th Semester students at 2:00 PM. The skill training programme was sponsored by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship under Pradhan Mantri Kushal Vikas Yogna Phase 4 (PMKVY – 4.0) and implemented by Cane Concept, Sovima, Chumoukedima. Mr. Tesha Paswan, Project Coordinator and Mr. Rhorhetho Pochury, Data Operator, Cane Concept, were the resource persons.
15th November, 2023: UNNATI UNXT along with the Principal, Prof. Sanjay Sharma, Skill Development Committee and changemaker Lamniu, organised a valedictory function for the 3rd batch of trainees. A total of 81 students successfully completed the soft skill training programme.
15th December, 2023: Theory and practical exams of sewing machine operator was held with Mr. Yead Ali, Assessor, Navriti Technology Noida, Uttar Pradesh, as the external examiner. 19 girl student trainees successfully completed the training and took the exam.
24th January, 2024: 10 students of Assistant Installation, Computing and Peripherals appeared their exam successfully. Exam was conducted by external examiner Mr. Surjeet Kumar (Assessor) from Patna and Mr. Anil Sharma (Proctor) from Tinsukia.
13th February, 2024: An orientation for B.A. and B.Com 6th Semester students who had registered for the 5th batch of UNNATI soft skills training, was conducted at 1:30 PM in the Seminar Hall, DGC.
17th February, 2024: An orientation programme for the new batch of skill training for four trades under NSDC: Sewing Machine Operator, Assistant Beauty Therapist, IT Coordinator in School, and Assistant Installation Computing and Peripherals, was held at the college auditorium at 10 AM.
12th March 2024: 160 students of B.A. and B.Com 2nd Semester attended a National Awareness Workshop on 12th March 2024 at 2 PM, at the auditorium. The Department of Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship of Government of Nagaland, conducted the workshop with its aim to emphasize on the importance of apprenticeships in fostering skill development and facilitating employment opportunities. The resource person for the workshop was Ms. Imtisenla Jamir, Coordinator, Department of Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship.
13th March 2024: The 4th batch of trainees under UNNATI NXT concluded with a valedictory function on 13th March 2024. The training programme was held from 2nd February 2024 to 12th March 2024 under the guidance of trainer and changemaker Lamniu Shiu and course coordinator Ms. Asenla T. Longkumer, Assistant Professor, Department of History. 115 students successfully completed the course.
18th March, 2024: The 3rd batch of Sewing Machine Operator skill training commenced with 45 trainees on 18th March 2024 with an orientation by trainer Neikhozotuo Savino and course coordinator, Dr. G. Phukato Sema, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
9th April, 2024: 106 students of DGC attended the EduFair Fest organised by EduCentre Dimapur. Two sessions were held: morning session from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM for government college students and evening session for other colleges.
Students were warmly welcomed by the staff members and the session was conducted by Mr. Atsung who encouraged the students in their choice of career options and further studies. He emphasized on personal abilities and skills of a person for selection of future career and to catch up with the advancement in technologies in today’s world. An interactive session was conducted with the students where questions were posed, and doubts cleared up by Mr. Atsung. The session ended with light refreshment, followed by visits to various stalls from different universities and organizations.
Career guidance and scholarship programmes on various fields like entrepreneurship, journalism, MA, MBA, etc. from cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Guwahati, were given to students on visits to various stalls. According to different batches of students, they were asked to visit the stalls. Around 30 students from B.A and B.Com 6th Semesters took part in the first batch followed by the other batches. The students were exposed to abroad study programmes and different universities in and around India. It was then followed by an interview by the Educentre staff to some of the students on the experience of this EduFair.
25th April, 2024: 11 trainees of Assistant Beauty Therapist course appeared their exam successfully under trainer Ms. Lily Kinny. Exam was conducted by external examiner Ms. Nayani Kalita, Master Trainer and Master Assessor, BWSSC.
30th April, 2024: 10 students successfully appeared and completed the first batch of IT Coordinator in School course, with trainer Ms. Sushmita Bhadra and assessor from Kolkata.
6 students from DGC have successfully completed 37 courses offered by IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) Skills Build Programme, which is a CSR initiative for Higher Education in Nagaland. This programme is a Government of Nagaland Initiative in collaboration with REACHA (Research and Extension Association for Conservation Horticulture and Agro-Forestry) and through the IDAN (Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland). It aims to build the requisite skills for students in areas such as data analytics, entrepreneurship, communication, artificial intelligence etc. All courses are online, based on the convenience of the learners.
