Institutional Efforts:
Dimapur Government college has a rich cultural mix of students from all parts of Nagaland. Drawn from various places, students have found DGC a home away from home. The institution, has conducted several programmes for promoting an inclusive environment. It has taken various initiative for promoting tolerance and harmony towards cultural, regional, linguistic, communal, socio-economic and other diversities.
It aims at cultural diversity and to foster independent thinking in young people towards culture, DGC observes cultural Wednesday on every first Wednesday of the month.
Students observe the day by wearing traditional attire, costume etc.
Representation to the student’s council is done based on equal representation from students of all culture and gender.
A specific day for cultural activity is observed during the college sports week. Students get to participate in their traditional songs, dances, games etc.
- Harbinger Fest:
The Students Council organized an annual ‘Harbinger Fest‘ from 6th -10th February 2024 (five days). The fest includes activities pertaining to cultural , sports and literary. Cultural events includes display of cultural attires and traditional game:
On the second day , date 9th February 2024 the Literacy and Cultural day was held. Followed by Literary cum Cultural day and Cultural programme :
On the third day, date 10th February 2024 the Music Fest was held
- Alcheringa Report
The Dimapur Government College students participated at ‘Alcheringa Fest‘ which was held from 7th -10th March 2024 at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. Alcheringa is the annual cultural festival of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. Among other participants. Ms. Imyarila jamir from Education Department won 1st position on voice of Alcheringa, and Ms. Shomei Konyak from Educatlon Department was the winner on Alcher Con.
- Cultural Attire
The Dimapur Covernment College Students Council (DGCSC) made a resolution that on every first week of Wednesday is compulsory for the students to come to college with an item of traditional attire along with the college uniform. This has been put into practice for a long time to inspire and make the students aware on the importance of preserving and remembering the roots of our culture that each and every Individual belongs.
