1. The logo is shaped like a crown with five figures on top to signify that the Department comprising of teachers and students are looking upwards with a higher vision towards which they strive by collective effort and teamwork.

2. The six stars in the middle signify that the Department is producing leaders that will shine like stars, and achieve results that goes beyond the stars.

3. The lower part is shaped like a book to signify the knowledge we impart rooted in educational excellence.

4. The tassel is indicative of the graduation cap that are worn by students on acquiring a degree, signifying the successful completion of their studies.

5. The motto “Empower to Transform” embedded in the very heart of the logo signifies that the Department desires to empower young minds who will go on to transform the world into a better place.

6. Above all, the Department of English strives to be a crown of glory for Dimapur Govt. College.

The department of English, Dimapur Government College, was established in the year 1966.

The department teaches the following courses in the college:

1. English Core and Minor Papers                                              – 4 Credits each

2. Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course (AECC):

The department has a dedicated and seasoned faculty, with two members holding doctorate degrees in their respective fields, committed to contributing to academic and extracurricular activities of the college.  A highlight among many of the activities overseen by the department is the Literati Club: exclusively managed by the department, which organises literary events within the college and cultivates students for inter-collegiate competitions.

The department oversees two streams, Arts & Commerce. The department also provides classes for mandatory subjects in almost all semesters as well as for honours in English.

The department has been contributing generously towards students’ welfare initiatives. Under the English department students’ welfare initiative, the department faculty has been providing monthly stipends to 2-3 students since 2020.

We actively explore diverse approaches to enhance the teaching-learning process, including different online platforms and audio-visual tools even as we conduct Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) to help students improve on their academic output.

Additionally, the faculty remains accessible in-person or online to address any query students may have. We include of extension activities and initiatives that go beyond the regular curriculum, providing students with opportunities for practical application and real-world experiences, broadening their learning experiences.
