Annual Activity Report June 2023 To May 2024
The Department of History has conducted various programmes and activities during the period May 2023 to June 2024.
Talk on Archives and Museum: 5th September, 2023
The Department of History held a talk on Archives and Museums on 5th September 2023 to provide an exploratory understanding on the subject. The resource person was Zubeni Lotha who is a photographer from Nagaland and who also was the Co- Curator for a Naga Exhibition at the Humboldt Forum, Berlin 2022. At present she is the co-founder of (PINE) Peace Initiative in Northeast India, a first of its kind for promoting a culture of peace in the Northeastern region of India at institutional level. The talk was well attended by the 3rd Sem students.
Quiz Competition: 30th September, 2023
Quiz Competition was conducted by the History Club as a club activity for the session 2023 on 30th September in commemoration of the 154th Gandhi Jayanti. The competition was among the History students of the 1st, 3rd and 5th Semesters. The quiz was on the Gandhi- his early life, Teaching, Philosophy, and his role in Indian nationalism.
The winner of the Quiz Competition was 1st Semester group with a score of 135 points. Certificates were presented to all the participants by the HoD Dr. Meripeni Ngully.
10th Lecture Series: 30th October, 2023
The 10th Lecture Series was held on 30th October 2023 with Fr. Abraham Lotha as the Guest Speaker. He is a Naga Catholic priest, an anthropologist and also the author of many books including The Hornbill Spirit, The Wounded Tiger, The Raging Mithun, and History of Naga Anthropology
He presented his topic The Science of understanding Naga History. The lecture was attended by students and faculty of DGC as well as Unity College, Dimapur. The main focus of the lecture was on understanding Naga ancestral journey through DNA studies.
Talk on Naga Folklore: 23rd February, 2024.
As an IDP activity for 2nd semester, the Department conducted a Talk on Naga Folklore with Dr WalunirTzudir, a formerly Associate Professor of Amity University, Noida UP as the resource person. He spoke on the topic “Introduction to Folkore Studies”.

Extension Activity: One Day Teachers’ Seminar on 2nd March, 2024
The department of History carried out an Extension Activity with the teachers of Eden Higher Secondary School, Dimapur. The school invited us to conduct a One Day Teachers’ Seminar on NEP 2020 for the teaching faculty of the school on 2nd March 2024 in the school premises. The resource persons were Ms. Ngutoli Y. Swu, Assistant Professor in History, who gave an introduction to NEP 2020, while Dr. Meripeni Ngully, Assoc. Prof. and HOD of History, spoke on the implementation of NEP 2020 in Nagaland: its challenges and Ms. Rebainla Ao, Assoc. Professor, Department of Education, dealt with teaching pedagogy. This was followed by an interactive session.

Annual Club Activity Report (2023-24)
World Heritage Day: 16th April, 2024
The History Club and the faculty members of the Department of History celebrated World Heritage Day on the theme “Discover and Experience Diversity” Smti. Sentila T. Yanger, Padmashree, State Convener INTACH, Nagaland Chapter was the Guest Speaker who spoke on the importance of understanding heritage in our lives and creating awareness on the conservation and preservation of the same.
The programme witnessed competition on cultural heritage.
The first category of the competition was War Cry.
The winners are Lengsho Pangkha (6th Sem) first position,
Kughaholi K Zhimo(6th Sem) second position
Zaden Ovung (2nd Sem) third position.
The second category was Perfomative Acts or Display on Naga Culture.
First Prize went to the Mlei-Ngyi Group who displayed Traditional Rice Pounding, Winnowing and Pottery.
Second Prize went to Moatsu Group who performed the Naga Weaving Tradition
Third Prize went to Ngada Group who performed Traditional Games.
There was a Special Performance by Shivam and Sunil who showed the making of Bhojpuri Traditional Dish- Litti Chokha
The Judges for the competition were Dr Asangba Tsudir, Asst.Professor, Dept of Philosophy, Ms Shuiching Konyak, Asst Professor, Dept of English and Ms. Asenla T. Longkumer, Asst Professor, Dept of History. The competition was hosted by Ms. Neisenuo Apon Rengma.
The Vice President of the History Club Nungsangjenla chaired the programme while the welcome address was delivered by Dr.Meripeni Ngully, HoD , Dept of History and the vote of thanks proposed by Chumseba Sangtam.
