Report from June 2023 – May 2024
- The Political Science Subject Topper Award was given to Miss Suhana Begum on the 57th College Foundation Day On 25..7.23. The Award is solely managed by the Political Science Department, Dimapur Government College (DGC).
2. On 30.8.24, the Political Science Department celebrated the induction of a fresh batch of office bearers for the Political Science Club. It was thereby resolved to make this Club students’ centric by handing over leadership of this Club to the students.
3. Report on the Inter – College Debate Competition organised by the Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Debate and Quiz Club of St. John College:
The Political Science Department of St John College organised Inter-College Debate Competition in collaboration with Debate and Quiz Club on the topic “Challenges and opportunities of Uniform Civil Code (UCC)” on 19/09.23. Dimapur District with. Mr Rendemo C. Tsanglao and Pauleuhing Teilia of 5th Semester, both members of Political Science Club, DGC, participated in the Debate Competition. They were accompanied by the President and G/ Secretary. K.Tokishe Zhimo of Political Science Club. Rendemo C Tsanglao spoke for the motion and Pauleuhing Teilia spoke against the motion. The affirmative team argued in support of the UCC. The speakers from the team argued that, UCC is in alliance with article 14 of Indian Constitution which give the right to equality to all the citizen of India. Some speakers argued that, personal laws should be in accordance with the constitution.
Mr Pauleuhing Teilia, an honours student of Political Science Department, DGC was the winner. He represented the opposing team.
4. On 7th of October, 2023, a political science honours student, Mr.Chingmei Konyak won the First Prize and as Best Debater in an Inter-College District Debate Competition organised by unity college, Dimapur, on the topic “Uniform Civil Code; Should India Replace Personal Laws based on Religion and EnsureGender Equality”
5. ‘No Tobacco Zone’ Adopted and maintained by Political Science Department in the College Campus.
Two signages to create awareness on the bad effects of Tobacco were erected in the main entrance of the college gate on Oct 10, 2023 by the teachers of Political Science Department and students.
6. The Political Science Club organised a ‘Poster Competition’ commemorating the 78th UN Day on the theme, “Building back together for Peace and Prosperity.” on 19th October,2023.
It washeld in the Seminar Hall attended by 24 students including the club executive and 5 teachers. The President of the club Wangno Konyak from 5th semester, chaired the program, Nivilo K. Zhimomi, 1st semester pronounced the invocation prayer, Amongla N Jamir Asst. Prof. spoke on the UN Day theme. The Club Logo was officially launched under the motto by the Club President. HoD Sedevino Jakhalu briefed the participants on the guidelines of the competition the time limit was 25 minutes followed by Vekishe Chishi 1st semester presented a special number, Bokali Kibami announced the result of the Poster Competition. Ithel Meru 5th Semester bagged the 1st Cash Price of Rs. 1500/-and Alijungla Longchar of 3rd semester won the 2nd Rs. 1000/-. The Prize money and refreshment was sponsored by Hod Sedevino Jakhalu and Bokali Kibami. Altogether 15 participants participated in the said competition, Tokishe the General Secretary proposed the Vote of thanks and the program concluded by Tialong Jamir Club VP pronounced the benediction followed by light refreshment.
7. On 4.11.2023, in the Inter-Departmental Seminar of Dimapur Government College, Ms. Amongla N Jamir, Asst Professor represented the department by presenting a paper on the topic, “Misrepresentation of Traditional Authoritative Institutions in Nagaland with special reference to Mokokchung district and beyond.”
8. On 27th March 2024, a ‘Mini Parliament’ was organised by the Political Science Club in collaboration with the Political Science Department of the College.
9. Ms.Sedevino Jakhalu, HoD Political Science Department was invited as a Resource Person at the Inter -College Students’ Seminar at St John College, Dimapur on the topic, “The importance of conducting Seminars for Faculty and students’ development” on 23.4.24.
10. Mr Pauleuhing Teilia , Political Science Honours student also got the 1st position in the same seminar for his seminar paper entitled; “ Heraka religion: An indigenous religion among the Zeliangrong.”
11. The Graduating Students’ Interactive Programme (GSIP) was accorded to the outgoing 6 semester Political Science Honours students on 25th April 2024. Responsibility, gratitude, friendships and reliving of good memories marked the day.
