Dimapur Government College observes Earth Day on 22.04.2022

Dimapur Government College observed Earth Day on 22.04. 2022 on the theme “Upcycle Creation: Transforming Waste to Wealth.”

The day started at 8.00 am with planting of saplings by the Principal and members of the Innovation Council, Eco and Beautification Club and DGC RUSA Monitoring Cell.

The first session of the workshop started with a short exposition on what Earth Day is all about by the chairperson, Dr. Hannah Tia, Asst. Professor & Member, RUSA, followed by a welcome address by Dr. M. Libanthung Ngullie, Principal, DGC. The highlight of the first session was a presentation given by the resource person Dr. Temjensangla Pongen, Associate Professor, department of Geography, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, who spoke on the topic “Exposition on Waste and Waste Management.”

The second session was fun filled; the attendees of the workshop experienced firsthand how to utilize waste productively. It included training on making paper cups from A4 paper (approximately 75 gsm paper) and making bowls from plantain leaves. Also, the resource person gave tips on upcycling wastes by making bags from old T-shirts and old jeans, among other things.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Anungla Aier, Associate Professor & Convenor, Eco & Beautification Club, DGC.
