A report on the One-Day Faculty Orientation for MA Programme (sponsored by IQAC, Dimapur Government College)
The Department of History, Dimapur Government College organised a Faculty Orientation for introduction of MA Programme under NEP 2020 on 7th August 2026 at the Seminar Hall, DGC. The programme was chaired by Ms. Lily Rino, HOD History who also conveyed the welcome address in which she highlighted how the introduction of the PG Programme was a milestone achievement for the Department and the need for orientation was felt to prepare the Teachers teach the students of MA Programme.
The resource person for the Faculty Orientation was Dr Chubala Sanglir, Assistant Professor, Department of History and Archaeology, Nagaland University who spoke on the topic ‘Syllabus Structure, Pedagogy and Assessment System’.
Syllabus:
On syllabus she highlighted that the total marks for each paper was 100 marks which was further divided into – Internals – 40 marks and Externals- 60 marks. In the 3rd semester of MA, there would be 2 core papers and 2 elective papers with each unit carrying 20 marks/ 1 credit, 5 units = 5 credits.
Course mapping was to be done where the name of the Teacher and no of students for each paper has to be registered in the SAMARTH Portal for the submission of Internals and externals marks. All the students and Teachers are to register in the portal.
Pattern of syllabus:
Syllabus is just the highlight of the course. The teachers are to teach from historiographical context, present the traditional narrative vs modern revisionist view and to find out the meaning of the syllabus.
Pedagogy:
Teacher led lecture – overarching blueprint of the topic where the students are to do the micro analysis. Teachers should provide good references/urls. Latest development around the topic should be discussed. The teachers are to provide ideas and let the students do the research on the topic.
Student driven activities: assignment – individual/collaboration, discussion – q&a. Every student should research on the topic given for assignment. Teacher can break down the marks for assignment – researching the topic and write up – 10, presentation – 5, discussion and Q&A – 5. The seriousness of the students can be assessed through their discussion and Q&A. This helps to check the capability of the students.
Internal marks:
Total – 40 marks
Class test – 20 marks – 2 class tests (10+10) or 1 class test (20), 5+5+10 – 5 (surprise tests) can be given after the lecture.
Assignment presentation:
10 presentation 10 submission
5+5 +10 (submission)
20 (submission and presentation)
Guideline for submission: APA referencing to be used.
External exam:
Total marks – 60 marks
5 questions with choices carrying 12 marks
Long answer/short answer
Mark division – teacher’s discretion – 6+6, 3+3+3+3, 12
4th semester:
Dissertation – hons with research – only coursework
Hons – course work and research dissertation
