Monthly Research Seminar conducted by Department of English
The Monthly Research Seminar was held on 19th September 2026 in the Seminar Hall, DGC. It was organised by the Research & Development Cell in collaboration with IQAC, DGC, and conducted by the Department of English.
The seminar was centred on the theme “Charles Dickens’ Hard Times: Critical Perspectives on Industrial Society.” It featured paper presentations by faculty and students of the Department of English, offering fresh perspectives on the Victorian classic.
Mr. Lanunochit Pongen, Associate Professor, Dept of English, chaired the session and delivered the welcome address.
Three papers were presented-
- Paper I : “The Cost of Industrialisation: Dehumanisation of the Working Class in Nineteenth-Century Britain,” presented by Miss A. Yingli Phom and Miss Anitoli Zhimo, 5th Semester, English Honours.
- Paper II : “The Failures of Utilitarian Education in Charles Dickens’ Hard Times,” presented by Miss Kikali G. Aye and Miss Pauziengaule Iheilung, 5th Semester, English Honours.
- Paper III : “From Facts to Algorithms: Rereading Dickens’ Hard Times in the Age of AI,” presented by Miss Vikitheli T. Kiba, Assistant Professor, Dept of English.
The presentations were followed by a discussion and announcements. Dr. A. Sentiyula, Associate Professor and Head, Dept of English, proposed the vote of thanks and reflected on the continued relevance of classic literature in contemporary times.
