Observation of World  Environment Day – 05-06-2026

DGC commemorates World Environment Day with Plantation Drive

Commemorating World Environment Day 2026 on the theme “Restore Our Earth, Embrace Our Future”, the NCC (SW & SD) of Dimapur Government College organized a tree plantation drive at the college’s new campus on 5th June 2026.

 Dr. T. Tiakaba Jamir, Principal and Ms. Diethoseu Mepfhuo, Vice Principal, Dimapur Government College, participated in the plantation drive along with Lt. Watisenla, ANO, NCC (SW) and 36 NCC cadets.

During the drive, 22 Pencil Pine trees (Cupressus sempervirens), donated by the principal’s office, along with several ornamental tree saplings were planted across the campus. The initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness and contribute to the enhancement of the college’s green cover in line with the theme of the day.

The plantation drive concluded successfully with a short address by the principal.

World Environment Day Painting Competition 2026

To commemorate World Environment Day, the Green Campus Committee in collaboration with Department of Environmental Science, sponsored by IQAC, organized a Sustainable art: Eco-print Competition on 5th June 2026. The programme aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage students to explore creativity through the use of natural and eco-friendly materials. The programme was chaired by Ms. Selina Walling, HoD Department of Environmental Science. World Environment Day address was delivered by Ms. Diethoseu Mepfhuo, Vice Principal.

The participants were provided with chart paper and invited to create artistic impressions using sustainable materials such as fallen leaves, flower petals, twigs, wood piece, stones and other bio degradable resources. The competition highlighted the importance of reducing waste, appreciating nature, and adopting environmentally responsible practices in artistic expressions. The artworks were evaluated on the basis of originality, aesthetic appeal and relevance to the theme by a panel of judges- Ms. Watisenla, Convenor Green Campus Committee, Ms. N. Sentinungla Pongen Member Green Campus Committee and Dr. Rentsamo Member Green Campus Committee.  Cash prizes were awarded to the winners-

1st prize L Phongpang konyak, 4th semester Department of Philosophy

2nd Prize- Temenaro Longkumer, 4th semester Department of Sociology and

3rd Prize- Karan, 4th semester Department of Education.

The programme concluded successfully with refreshments and a vote of appreciation to all participants and sponsor for making the event a success.
