The Annual Sports Meet of Dimapur Government College was held from 17th to 18th November 2021.The Opening Ceremony commenced with a speech and kick-off by the Dr. ML Ngullie, Principal DGC, which was followed with the oath-taking by the Captains of the four Houses into which all students, teachers & staff of DGC are divided.
The staff & teachers of DGC assisted in organising the event which saw more than 650 students participating in different games and sports such as:
- Football
- Volleyball
- Cricket
- Badminton
- Table tennis
- Basketball
- 100, 400 and 1X 400 (metres) relay race
- Javelin throw
- Shot put
Preliminary matches were played by all the four Houses from 9th to 11th of November, in order to encourage participation of every House and to ensure fair play in selections for the finals which were played during the Sports Meet.
There were various stalls of food, artwork and music set up by the students from different clubs and organisations.
More than 40 NCC Cadets volunteers assisted during the Meet in setting the fields and maintaining the ground.
17th November:
The first day included matches of football knockouts, basketball finals of girls, javelin throw and shot put.
Winners: Blue House in basketball (girls).
Red House in javelin.
Blue House in shot put
Blue house dominated the first day by winning in many categories of the scheduled events.
18th November:
Day two saw the finals of several events including football, cricket, volleyball, table tennis, badminton and field/track events of 100m, 400m and 1 X 400m relay race.
The final event included tug of war, both boys and girl of all Houses.
Final tally of points:
Red House: 510
Green House: 400
Blue House: 280
Yellow House: 210
Green House accumulated the highest points in extempore speech & story writing competitions held by the Literati Club of DGC during the Meet.
Red House was declared the Overall Champion of Sports Meet 2021.
The Sports Meet concluded with a closing function in which Dr. Benjongkumba, Convenor of the Sports Committee DGC gave a speech which was followed by the prize distribution. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Vice president of Dimapur Government College Students’ Council.
