An Anti-Tobacco awareness program was conducted in Dimapur Govt. College on 20th of August, 2018 by Dr. C.Tetseo from the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP).

The program was chaired by Ms. Kezha Hesso, HoD, department of Economics, DGC.

In his presentation, Dr C. Tetseo stated that tobacco is the biggest cause of preventable deaths with the numbers amounting to 7.2 million every year globally. He highlighted that youths are the target of the tobacco industry and many have fallen prey to their aggressive and glamorised campaign.

He also stated that making informed decisions based on sound knowledge about consequences of tobacco use will help the youth to shun the dangerous products before they get ensnared by it.

He exhorted the students that neither dying/getting crippled at an early age due to tobacco nor giving up dreams due to silly habits was acceptable.

Advising them to take home the message, he encouraged them to live their lives to the fullest.

He also emphasized on the importance of strengthening tobacco-free environment in the campus.

After the program, Dr.C. Tetseo also had an interaction with the faculty of the college and discussed issues relating to the enforcement of tobacco control laws around educational institutions.
