REPORT ON INTER-DEPARTMENTAL SEMINAR CONDUCTED BY DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY, DIMAPUR GOVT. COLLEGE

A Seminar titled “Separation Effects of Parents on their Children with Special Reference to Nagaland” was held at the Conference Room of Dimapur Government College on the 30th of June 2018.

Ms. Rukuoviu, an Assistant Professor from the Department of Psychology, DGC was the Resource Person. The seminar was attended by the Principal, the Vice Principal and the teaching faculty of DGC.

Ms. Puli Chishi, Assistant Professor and HoD, Department of Psychology, chaired the program. After introducing the Resource Person, she gave a brief overview of the topic.

The seminar topic, which based on the research findings of the Resource Person,  dealt with the study of male and female children aged between 6-10 years who were living with their mothers (after having separated from their husbands),.

 Starting with an introduction to Erikson’s theory of  Psychosocial Development with emphasis on affiliation, aggression and dejection; the importance of the study, its objectives, hypothesis, research tools, procedure, scoring and sample result were discussed based on the variables.

Factors that play an essential role in a child’s development, namely, role models, positive environment, personality development, maturity level and psychological well being were highlighted. Differences were shown in both quantitative and qualitative studies.

During the lively discussion that followed, questions, suggestions, opinions and constructive input from the members made valuable contributions to the interesting topic. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks from the chairperson.
