Report on National Seminar on “Urban Solid Waste Management: Challenges and Issues” held from 30th to 31st August, 2019 in Dimapur Govt. college.

The Research  Committee of Dimapur Govt. College in Collaboration with the Dimapur Municipal Council, Dimapur , organized a two day National Seminar on the topic “Urban Solid Waste Management: Challenges and Issues” in the conference Hall of Dimapur Govt. College from the 30th to the 31st of August, 2019.

In the inaugural function, the Key-note address was delivered by Supongnukshi  IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, Nagaland.

Resource persons and participants from various parts of the country and the state gathered to deliberate on various sub-topics related to the theme. Spread over four technical sessions, the 18 (eighteen) papers presented highlighted various dimensions of the problem of Urban Solid Waste Management , discussed findings and proposed various solutions which can serve as useful intellectual resource for policy makers, leaders and social workers in the process of formulating action plans.

Three important consensus principles regarding Solid Waste Management which emerged from this Seminar are Reduction of Waste (RW), Segregation of Waste (SW) and Conversion of Waste (CW).

Apart from governmental initiatives and work done by NGOs, the role of individuals and the community in tackling this problem was emphasized.
