A one day seminar on “Climate Change” was held on the 18th of May 2019 at the Dimapur Govt. College auditorium. It was organised by the DGC Alumni Association in collaboration with the Dept. of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Govt. of Nagaland.
The program started with an introduction by K. Temjen Jamir, President, DGC Alumni Association. In his speech he pointed out that climate change is an alarming global issue and has become a threat to our Mother Earth. He said that a joint effort is the need of the hour to combat climate change.
Kavili Jakhalu, Principal, DGC ,in her opening remarks stated that human activities are the main cause for climate change and therefore we also need to find solutions to care for our climate.
The three resource persons for the seminar were:
- Butesen Ozukum, Freelance Trainer, Leadership & Community Development; Shillong who spoke on “Consequences of Climate Change and Counter-measures”;
- Ango Konyak, Asstt. Conservator of Forest (Headquarters) o/o the PCCF & HOFF Kohima, Dy. Project. Project Director Nagaland Forest Management Project who spoke on the topic “Government response to the threat of climate change and involvement of community”;
- Suman WM Sivachar, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Office of the Chief Wildlife Warden and Wildlife Warden, Kiphire Wildlife Division. He spoke the topic “Combating Climate Change through Conservation of Forest and Wildlife.”
The well researched presentations on various aspects of Climate Change and the role of individuals, community and government in dealing with the different challenges was followed by an interactive session where teachers, students and alumni participated. The program concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Limanaro , Associate Professor, dept of education. The moderators for the program were Selina walling, Asst Professor, dept. of Environmental Studies and Meripeni Ngully, Asso. Professor, dept of History, DGC.
