The Skill Development Committee, Dimapur Government College (DGC), was instituted on 22nd September, 2022. The committee has been actively involved in various initiatives to ensure that each student of DGC gets trained in a particular trade and receives a credible skill certificate together with their graduation degrees.
On 27th September, 2023, Shri. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and IT, visited the college for an interaction with students. During his interaction, he declared that DGC would be made a Skill Hub under the Skill India Mission. Today, Dimapur Government College has successfully been registered as a Skill Hub, an initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY), which will be executed through National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
So far, three skill trainings have been successfully completed in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), UNNATI-UNXT and Nagaland Tool Room and Training Centre (NTTC).






Activities and programmes undertaken by the committee:
- Skill Development Committee has conducted 12 meetings from October 2022- May 2023.
- 7th October, 2022: Participated in a “One-day Workshop/ VDP to Promote Entrepreneurship Culture in Nagaland” virtually, organised by Agri and Allied Departments, Government of Nagaland.
- 28th October, 2022: A Students’ Survey on Career Guidance and Skill Development was conducted in collaboration with the Career Counselling and Placement Cell, DGC.



- 3rd December, 2022: An interactive programme on “Training in Hospitality Sector” was organised in collaboration with Pinnacle Skills, Dimapur.



- 5th December, 2022: A session on “Startup Nagaland and Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme” was conducted by EduCentre School of Business with the Skill Development Committee as joint organiser.


- 24th January, 2023: The Skill Development Committee and Career Counselling and Placement Cell organised an inaugural programme for the commencement of Tata Consultancy Services training session.
- 10th February, 2023: Organised an orientation on skill development by UNNATI UNXT, a joint venture with Directorate of Higher Education for B.A. and B.Com 6th Semester students.


- 10th February, 2023: Conducted orientation programmes on “Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programme” by Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC) for B.A. and B.Com 6th Semester students and “Training in Securities Market” sponsored by Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for B. Com 6th Semester.


- 10th February, 2023: A valedictory function was organised to commemorate the successful completion of the first training programme in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services. 53 students completed the 50-hour Youth Employment Program, with Lamneithem Vaiphei as Trainer, TCS.





- 14th March, 2023: An orientation programme for all B.A and B.Com. 6th Semester students on skill training programme under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) was held in the college auditorium. Another orientation programme on the same matter was held for all B.A and B.Com. 4th Semester students on 16th March, 2023. Prof. Sanjay Sharma, Principal, DGC, highlighted the landmark registration of DGC as a Skill Hub under the NSDC.



- 21st and 22nd March 2023: The Skill Development Committee, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, conducted a two-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme.





- 23rd – 25th March, 2023: A 3-day workshop on Financial Markets by National Institute of Financial Markets was conducted.

- 24th March, 2023: UNNATI UNXT, a soft skills training programme with 90 contact hours, culminated with a valedictory function. A total of 65 students from B.A. and B.Com 6th Sem completed the course under the guidance of 2 changemakers: Mhabeni Ezung and Lamniu Shiu.





- 15th April, 2023: An orientation programme was held for Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) for Sewing Machine Operator and Home Appliances Technician training courses under Skill Hub, DGC.
- 18th April, 2023: The inaugural programme to mark DGC as a Skill Hub under National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) was held in the presence of Pravin Yadav, Nagaland State Coordinator, NSDC. He mentioned that two other trades to be offered at the DGC Skill Hub are in the pipeline for recognition under the NSDC.




- 18th April, 2023: Skill Hub training for 2 trades, Sewing Machine Operator and Home Appliances Technician, commenced with Neikhozotuo Savino and Island Victor as the trainers, respectively. Sewing Machine Operator is a 300-hour training programme and Home Appliances Technician is a 210-hour training programme with 30 enrolled students in each course. Trainees will receive globally recognised certificates on completion of their training.




- 6th May, 2023: A valedictory programme was organised for “Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Training” in collaboration with Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre. Training was offered on 4 different skills—Assistant Electrician, Fibre Extraction and Handicrafts, Post Harvest Management of Fruits and Vegetables and Solid Waste Management—for two successive batches. A total of 145 students successfully completed the course.





- 17th May, 2023: Participated in a virtual ‘Certificate Distribution Ceremony’ for ‘Youth Employment Program’ trainees of Tata Consultancy Services Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. 401 certificates were virtually awarded to students from 11 colleges in North-East India. From DGC, 53 students received the certificate for completing the 50-hour training program. Vitoka Chishi and Sorenbeni delivered speeches on behalf of the students and Dr. Maongkala Longchar, Convenor of Skill Development Committee, spoke on behalf of DGC.
