Annual Report (1st June 2023 to 31st May 2024)
The Solid waste management committee Dimapur Government College was set up in February 2024. The committee comprises of 10 members with Principal, DGC as the Chairman. The main function of this committee is to implement effective solid waste management practices in the college. To oversee the proper handling of waste the committee members are divided into two groups – Team biodegradable and Team non-biodegradable.
Methods of Treating Waste
Non-biodegradable waste:
For the Non-biodegradable wastes, waste bins are kept at strategic locations. Once the waste bins are filled, the waste is carried to the disposable site earmarked for disposing of non –biodegradable wastes where these waste are collected by the Dimapur Municipal Council and the rag pickers for proper disposition.
Biodegradable waste:
Biodegradable wastes are collected and put in the Compost pit for proper decomposition. Fallen Leaves, twigs etc are collected on a daily basis and dried up. Once the leaves are dried up they are put in the shredding machine. After proper shredding they are disposed off into the compost pit for decomposition, leaving them for few months after which they are used for manure. As of now there are 6(six) compost pit which are filled with biodegradable waste where manures will be taken out after the due process of decomposition.
