Report on Educational Visit to DIET, Dimapur
The Department of Education organized an educational visit to District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Dimapur located at Virazouma village, Chumoukedima on 2nd April, 2026 for M.A 4th Semester. The class of 23 students were accompanied by four faculty members of the department. The purpose of the visit was to enhance students’ understanding of the functioning of DIET and its courses, which form part of the M.A syllabus.
A short programme was organized by DIET in which the welcome address was delivered by the Vice Principal. She stated that the institute is primarily for preparing teachers for elementary schools, and that the institute currently has a total of 27 staff. The functions of DIET were highlighted by a faculty member. Some of the points mentioned were:
- DIET offers 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) course. Papers like VAC, ICT, EVS are offered. Eligibility Class 12.
- A total of 50 seats for D.El.Ed.
- In the second year, subjects like maths, science, language, music, drama, project-based education, life skill education, experience-based learning, competency-based learning, simulated teaching, teaching learning materials (TLM) workshops, action research, community programme, inclusive education, etc. are offered.
- The institute also offers ODL for Hindi teachers.
- Apart from offering academic courses, it organizes trainings, workshops and capacity-building programmes.
Following the programme, the students toured different sections of the institute, interacted with the student-teachers and gained hands-on experience of the teaching learning materials (TLM) prepared by the student-teachers. The educational visit was both informative and enriching, offering meaningful firsthand knowledge of the institutional practices of DIET and its academic activities. It contributed to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical exposure, thereby enhancing students’ overall learning experience.
