Literati Club of Dimapur Government College (DGC) in collaboration with Heritage Publishing House (HPH) launched two books written by renowned writer Temsula Ao on the 12th of January, 2019 in the college premises. This first of its kind event was jointly organised and sponsored by the IQAC of DGC and HPH, and hosted by Dimapur Government College.
Songs Along the Way Home (HPH), her sixth book of poems and Aosenla’s Story (Zubaan), her first fictional novel were released together by A. Sentiyula, Assistant Professor in English, DGC, who also spoke on the various academic, literary and cultural contributions of Temsula Ao. Kavili Jakhalu, Principal of DGC welcomed the mixed gathering comprising of Temsula Ao’s family and friends; academics and intellectuals; DGC faculty and students; along with students and teachers of various colleges. Sedevino Jakhalu, Associate Professor, DGC dedicated the books with a special prayer while Prof. J. Longkumer, daughter of Temsula Ao, spoke on behalf of her family. Mithu Longkumer, Associate Professor and HoD, department of English, DGC recited a poem titled “Legacy” while Ayimnaro Jamir, an English Honours student of DGC recited “Forgive me,” both from her present collection of poetry. After the vote of thanks from Dr. Lanusangla Tzudir of HPH, there was a book signing by the writer while her books were also sold simultaneously at a mini book fair in the venue.
The event received wide coverage in the local media, especially since this was the first time Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi awardee Temsula Ao was formally launching her books during her illustrious writing career of over three decades.
