The Scroll, the Inkpot and the Feather Pen signify the importance of writing in history and how it is fundamental to Historians in understanding what happened, when and how. The Department endeavors to build this Historian’s craft to develop inquiry, insight and inspire learners to actively engage in creating an intellectual culture, creative research and scholarship.

The Department of History teaches the following courses:

2. Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC):
- Fairs and Festivals in North East India – 3 Credits
- Museums and Archives – 3 Credits
- Introduction to Archaeology – 3 Credits
3. Inter-Disciplinary Papers (IDP):
- Freedom Movement in North East India – 3 Credits
- Understanding Heritage – 3 Credits
4. SWAYAM:
- Managing Human Resources
- Introduction to Japanese Language and Culture
5. Internship:
- Research Internship – 2 Credits
- Skill Internship – 2 Credits
The department has well qualified and experienced teachers who are committed to the vocation. The department strives to excel and provide the best learning experience to the students. The department has consistently performed and has a good track record of 90% to 100% pass percentage.
This year 2023 for the first time, the department has produced a University Topper in the Bachelor of Arts Degree Examination 2023. Ms Lito H Achumi secured a CGPA of 6.85 in the scale of 7. She also remains the first in the college.
The department actively engages in contributing to the holistic development of the students by organizing study tours and visits, seminars and lecture series. The History Club established on 7th March, 2023 also provides opportunities to the students to hone their leadership skills and expand their horizon of learning beyond their classrooms through various club activities.
The Department also actively engages in extension activities with other institutions of higher education as well as schools within Dimapur which contributes towards knowledge sharing system.
